frequently asked questions
Straight answers about working with us: fees, timelines, renovations, projects outside Mumbai and how we choose materials.
Where is studio in•elements based?
Our studio is at 5 Laburnum Road, Gamdevi, Mumbai 400007. Most of our projects are in Mumbai, and we also take on homes in Alibaug, Karjat, Lonavala, Pune, Nashik, Goa and Gujarat. See where we work.
Who will actually design my project?
The studio's founders, architects Anushri Shetty and Maitri Uka, lead every project personally, from the first meeting to handover.
Are you architects or interior designers?
Both. We're qualified architects who also design interiors, so we can handle layout and structural changes, services and approvals as well as joinery, materials and furniture. Read architect or interior designer: who do you need?
What kinds of projects do you take on?
Apartment interiors, renovations of older flats, heritage-sensitive homes, holiday homes and bungalows, and offices for small and growing teams. See our services.
How do your fees work?
Fees depend on the scope and the type of project, and are set out in a written proposal after our first conversation. We explain the common fee models and what drives a budget in how much does interior design cost in Mumbai?
Is there a minimum project size?
No fixed minimum. We've designed homes from a 386 sq. ft. renovation upward. What matters more is that we're the right fit for what you want to achieve.
How long does an interior project take?
Design usually takes 6–10 weeks. Site work for an apartment interior typically takes 3–6 months, and a full renovation of an older flat 4–9 months, depending on scope and building rules. See how a project runs.
Do you renovate old apartments?
Yes. Much of our work is in older Mumbai buildings. We check structure, plumbing, wiring and waterproofing before designing finishes. Plum House is a renovation inside a roughly 50-year-old Breach Candy building.
Will you handle society approvals?
We prepare the drawings and information your society needs for its NOC, and plan the site work around its rules on timings, debris and lift use. For architecture projects we also coordinate statutory approvals.
Do you take projects outside Mumbai?
Yes, within roughly 5–8 hours by road, a short flight or around 4 hours by train: Alibaug, Karjat, Lonavala, Pune, Nashik, Goa, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat, for example. We visit at every key stage and work with trusted local teams.
Do you supervise the work on site?
Yes. We visit site regularly, check work against our drawings, approve samples and resolve questions as they come up, through to handover.
Do you provide contractors, or can I use my own?
Either. We can recommend contractors and craftspeople we've worked with, help you compare quotes, or work with a contractor you already trust.
What materials do you like to use?
Natural materials that age well: lime plaster, solid and reclaimed teak, Indian stones like Banswara marble and Kota stone, cane, rattan and raw brass. We choose them for how they'll look in ten years, not just on handover day.
Is sustainable design more expensive?
Not necessarily. Passive design, reusing what's already there and choosing local materials often save money. Where a sustainable choice costs more, we explain the trade-off and let you decide. See sustainable design.
Can you work with furniture and art we already own?
Yes, and we encourage it. Some of our favourite moments come from designing around a client's collection, like the display wall built around travel cups in Plum House.
