The Nest is a 1,200 sq. ft., three-bedroom apartment in Juhu. It’s a family home that needed to feel warm and generous, store a great deal, and do all of that within a tight budget.

the brief

  • Three bedrooms, each suited to the person who sleeps in it.
  • Lots of storage, without the home feeling like a wall of cupboards.
  • Warmth and natural light, without expensive finishes everywhere.

warmth from a few honest materials

The living room: a built-in daybed, timber shelving and soft natural light.

Natural light floods the apartment, so we let it do much of the work. Warm wood tones and textured wall finishes pick up the daylight and give the rooms depth. That means we didn’t need costly feature materials in every corner. Soft furnishings carry colour and change easily over time.

three bedrooms, three identities

Rather than repeat one look across the home, each bedroom has its own design identity, from calm and minimal to vibrant. A consistent backbone of timber and storage ties them together, while the palette of materials and soft furnishings changes from room to room. It’s an economical way to make each room feel personal: the joinery system is shared, and the character comes from finishes and fabrics.

storage that pays for itself

A corner window seat with drawers below and open shelving above: storage, seating and display in one built-in.

On a tight budget, custom joinery is where the money goes furthest, because it replaces furniture you would otherwise buy:

  • Custom wardrobes planned around what each person actually stores.
  • Multifunctional furniture that doubles as storage or changes use during the day.
  • Built-ins in leftover spaces that loose furniture can’t use well.

The result is more usable storage and more floor space than an off-the-shelf approach, without stretching the budget. We cover the economics in more detail in how much does interior design cost in Mumbai?

The Nest shows that a warm, considered family home doesn’t need an unlimited budget. It needs clear priorities, smart planning and money spent where it changes daily life the most.
